Audio converter for MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG and AAC

Convert between MP3, WAV, FLAC and more.

Use this audio converter to turn an MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, AAC or M4A file into MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG or AAC. Upload one file up to 50 MiB, choose the output format and, for MP3, AAC or OGG, optionally pick a bitrate of 96, 128, 192 or 320 kbps. The converter re-encodes the whole file, so converting a lossy file such as MP3 to WAV or FLAC makes the file bigger without bringing back detail that was already thrown away.

How to convert an audio file

Choose an audio file with the .mp3, .wav, .flac, .ogg, .aac or .m4a extension, select the format you want and submit the form. If you picked MP3, AAC or OGG you can set a bitrate; leave it on Default to use the converter's standard setting. Download the result when it is ready. The original file is not changed, so you can run it again with another format or bitrate.

Which output format to choose

MP3 is the safest choice for playback on almost any phone, car stereo or app. AAC gives similar quality at similar sizes and suits Apple devices. OGG is an open format common in games and some web players. WAV and FLAC are lossless containers: WAV is uncompressed and large, FLAC is smaller but needs a player that supports it. Pick a lossless output only if the source was already lossless.

Bitrate and quality

The bitrate menu applies to MP3, AAC and OGG only. Higher numbers keep more detail and make larger files, so 320 kbps is the high-quality option and 96 kbps is for speech or small downloads. WAV and FLAC ignore the setting. Leaving the bitrate on Default uses a fixed quality profile for MP3 and OGG and 192 kbps for AAC.

Limits to know about

Each upload must be 50 MiB or smaller, one file per conversion, and processing is cut off if it takes longer than three minutes. Metadata handling is not something this tool promises, so check tags in your player after converting. To shrink a large file instead of changing its type, use the Audio Compressor.

Frequently asked questions

Which audio formats can I convert between?

You can upload MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, AAC or M4A files. The output can be MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG or AAC. Each conversion handles a single file of up to 50 MiB.

How do I convert WAV to MP3?

Upload the WAV file, choose MP3 as the output, optionally set a bitrate such as 192 kbps, and download the result. MP3 is much smaller than WAV, but it is lossy, so keep the WAV if you may need the original quality later.

Does converting MP3 to WAV improve the sound?

No. A WAV made from an MP3 holds the same audio at a much larger file size. The detail removed when the MP3 was created cannot be restored. Convert to WAV only when software or hardware requires that format.

What bitrate should I choose?

Use 128 kbps for everyday listening and spoken audio, 192 kbps for better music quality, and 320 kbps when you want the highest quality the tool offers. The setting applies to MP3, AAC and OGG only.

Is there a file size limit for the audio converter?

Yes, 50 MiB per file. If your recording is bigger, use the Trim Audio tool to cut it into parts or the Audio Compressor to reduce its size, then convert the smaller file.
