Change audio speed from 0.5x to 2x

Speed up or slow down an audio clip.

To change audio speed, upload a file, enter a speed multiplier between 0.5 and 2.0 and download the result as an MP3. A value of 0.5 plays at half speed and makes the audio twice as long, 1.5 plays it faster, and 2.0 halves the duration. The speed changer uses a tempo filter, which adjusts speed without raising or lowering the pitch, so voices do not turn into chipmunks, although extreme settings can sound slightly processed.

How to speed up or slow down audio

Choose an audio file up to 50 MiB, type a speed multiplier between 0.5 and 2.0 (the default is 1.0, no change) and submit. Values outside that range are rejected. The download is named after your file with the multiplier added, for example lecture-1.5x.mp3. Listen to a short section first if you are unsure which speed works.

Pitch stays the same

Unlike changing the playback rate of a record, this tool keeps the pitch where it was, so a voice stays recognisable. Time-stretching is an approximation, and you may hear small artefacts on music with sharp drum hits or at speeds close to the limits. Speech usually holds up best between 0.75x and 1.5x.

Good uses and limits

Speed up long lectures, voice notes and podcasts to save time, or slow down a fast speaker or a musical passage to learn it by ear. The range is fixed at half speed to double speed, and a single run applies one uniform speed to the entire file. To change only part of a recording, cut it first with Trim Audio.

Output format

The result is always an MP3, whatever you upload, so lossless sources lose a little detail. If you need a different format afterwards, use the Audio Converter. Very long files may hit the three-minute processing limit; trim or compress them first.

Frequently asked questions

How do I slow down an audio file without changing pitch?

Upload the file, enter a multiplier below 1, such as 0.75 or 0.5, and submit. The tool changes the tempo only, so the voice or music keeps its original pitch. The download is an MP3.

What speed range does the tool support?

From 0.5x to 2.0x. Anything outside that range is rejected by the form. A single speed applies to the whole file, so you cannot vary it along the timeline, and 1.0 leaves the speed unchanged.

Will the pitch change when I speed up audio?

No. The tool uses a tempo filter that changes duration while keeping the pitch. Heavy speed changes can introduce slight artefacts, especially on music, so check the result before using it.

Can I speed up a podcast to 1.5x?

Yes. Upload the episode, enter 1.5 and download the MP3, which will be about a third shorter. The file must be 50 MiB or smaller and finish processing within three minutes.

What format will the sped-up file be?

MP3. The tool re-encodes the audio whatever format you upload, and the file name includes the speed, such as track-0.5x.mp3. Use the Audio Converter afterwards if you need another format.
