Video tools to trim, compress, convert and edit

Convert, compress and trim your video files.

These video tools cover common edits without installing an editor: trimming a clip, shrinking a file, switching format, joining clips, resizing, rotating, muting, adding subtitles or a watermark, changing speed, turning a clip into a GIF and pulling out the audio. Uploads can be up to 200 MiB and accepted types are MP4, MOV, AVI, WEBM and MKV. Video jobs run in the background, so expect to wait for larger files.

Which video tool for which job

For a file that is too big to send, use Video Compressor to reduce size, or Resize Video to lower the resolution, which also cuts size. To cut the start or end, use Trim Video. To switch container or codec for a device or site, use Video Converter. To join clips, use Merge Videos. Rotate Video fixes sideways phone footage. Mute Video removes the sound track, and Extract Audio from Video saves the sound as an audio file. Video Speed Changer makes footage faster or slower. Add Subtitles to Video puts an SRT file onto the picture, and Watermark Video overlays a logo or text. Video to GIF makes a short looping clip. These are single-purpose tools, not a timeline editor: you cannot cut a clip in the middle, add transitions or layer tracks.

Limits and privacy

Each video can be up to 200 MiB, and a subtitle file up to 2 MiB. Video work is slow compared with documents, so these tools run as queued background jobs and show a status page. The queue is shared and limited, so a job may wait or be refused when it is busy; try again a little later. Results are held only briefly and then deleted, so download them as soon as they finish. Re-encoding always costs some quality, so keep your original. Do not upload footage you are not allowed to share with a third-party service.

Common video workflows

Share a long recording: Trim Video to the part that matters, then Video Compressor. Post footage that was filmed sideways: Rotate Video, then Resize Video. Make a silent loop for a page: Trim Video, Mute Video or Video to GIF. Caption a clip: write an SRT file, then Add Subtitles to Video. Keep only the sound: Extract Audio from Video, then Audio Compressor or Trim Audio from Audio Tools. Combine clips from different phones: Video Converter to a common format, then Merge Videos. Download each result and upload it to the next step.

Size, quality and formats

Smaller files come from lower resolution, lower quality or both, and the trade-off shows most in fast motion and fine detail. MP4 plays almost everywhere, which makes it the safe output when you are unsure. GIFs are far larger than video for the same length, so keep GIF clips short.

Frequently asked questions

What is the maximum video size?

Each video can be up to 200 MiB, in MP4, MOV, AVI, WEBM or MKV. For bigger files, trim off what you do not need first, or reduce the size elsewhere before uploading.

Why does my video take time to process?

Video processing is heavy, so these tools run as background jobs in a shared queue. You get a status page while the job runs. Longer or larger files take longer, and a busy queue can add waiting time.

How do I make a video small enough to email?

Trim the clip to what matters, then run Video Compressor. If it is still too big, lower the resolution with Resize Video. Many email services cap attachments around 20-25 MB, so check the final size.

Can I add subtitles to a video?

Yes. Add Subtitles to Video takes your video plus an SRT subtitle file, up to 2 MiB, and produces a new video with the text on screen. You need to write or obtain the SRT file yourself.

Can I save just the audio from a video?

Yes. Extract Audio from Video saves the sound track as an audio file. You can then shorten it with Trim Audio or reduce its size with Audio Compressor, both in Audio Tools.
