Add subtitles to video from an SRT file
Burn a .srt subtitle file directly into a video.
To add subtitles to video, upload your video and a subtitle file in SRT format, set the font size and colour, and download an MP4 with the text burned into the picture. Burned-in subtitles are always visible and cannot be switched off in the player. The SRT file can be up to 2 MiB, and the video up to 200 MiB. The tool does not create subtitles from speech, so you need to supply the SRT.
How to add subtitles
Choose your video and your .srt file. Set Font size, from 8 to 100 with 24 as the default, and pick a Font color with the colour picker, which starts as white. Submit the form and wait on the status page. Download the MP4, named after your video with -subtitled added.
What you get: hard-coded subtitles
The text is drawn onto the video frames, which means every viewer, device and social platform shows it. You cannot turn it off or swap languages afterwards, and it cannot be edited without redoing the job from your original. Keep the original video and SRT so you can change timing or wording later.
Styling is limited
You control only font size and font colour. The font itself, the position on screen, outlines and background boxes use the renderer's defaults. If your text is hard to read on a bright scene, try a different colour or a larger size. The audio is copied unchanged, while the video is re-encoded as H.264.
Getting the SRT right
An SRT file is plain text with numbered cues and start and end times. If the subtitles are early or late, fix the times in the file and run it again, because there is no sync offset setting here. Only .srt files are accepted. Name your video file with a supported extension such as .mp4, .mov, .avi, .webm or .mkv.
Frequently asked questions
What subtitle file format do I need?
An SRT file, ending in .srt and up to 2 MiB. Other formats such as VTT or ASS are not accepted. Convert them to SRT in a subtitle editor first.
Are the subtitles permanent?
Yes. They are burned into the picture, so every player shows them and nobody can turn them off. If you may need to change them, keep your original video and SRT file.
Can I generate subtitles automatically?
No. The tool places the text from your SRT file on the video but does not transcribe speech. You need to write or obtain the SRT file separately, in a text editor or subtitle tool.
Can I change the font or position of the subtitles?
Only the font size, from 8 to 100, and the colour. The font family, screen position and outline use default settings and cannot be changed in this tool. Pick a larger size if text is hard to read.
Why are my subtitles out of sync?
The tool follows the times written in your SRT file and has no offset setting. Edit the timestamps in the file to shift them earlier or later, then run the job again with the corrected SRT.
