Merge PDF files into one document

Combine multiple PDFs into a single document.

To merge PDF files, select two or more PDFs, submit the form and download a single combined file named merged.pdf. The files are joined in the order you selected them, and every page of each file is included in full. You can also stamp a running page number at the bottom of the merged result. Each source PDF can be up to 25 MiB, and password-protected files are not accepted.

How to combine PDFs

Click the file field and select at least two PDFs. They are merged in the order selected, so pick the cover or first chapter first. Tick the page numbers option if you want a number on every page of the merged file. Submit, wait for processing and download merged.pdf. The result page tells you how many files were combined.

Controlling the order

The tool has no drag-and-drop list after upload, so the order comes from how you select the files. If the merged file comes out in the wrong sequence, run it again with the files selected in the right order. To rearrange pages after merging, or drop a few, use Reorder / Delete PDF Pages on the result.

Page numbers on the merged file

The optional page numbering counts from 1 across the whole merged document and places a plain number at the bottom centre of every page, in a small black font. If you need a start number, a different corner or a Page X of Y format, merge without that option and run the result through Add Page Numbers, which has those settings.

What to expect from the result

Pages are copied across as they are, and the output is re-saved with unused objects cleaned out and streams compressed. Bookmarks and form fields from the source files are not something this tool promises to carry over, so check the merged file if you rely on them. Every source PDF must be unencrypted; unlock protected ones with the PDF Password tool first.

Frequently asked questions

How do I combine two PDFs into one?

Open Merge PDF, select both files in the order you want them, and submit. The tool joins every page of the first file followed by every page of the second and gives you merged.pdf to download.

Can I merge more than two PDFs?

Yes. Select as many PDFs as you need in the one file picker, as long as there are at least two. Each file can be up to 25 MiB. They are joined in the order you selected them.

How do I change the order of the merged PDFs?

The order follows your selection order, so select the files again in the order you want. After merging, you can also reorder or delete individual pages with the Reorder / Delete PDF Pages tool.

Can I merge password-protected PDFs?

No. Encrypted PDFs are rejected with an error, so the merge will not run. If you know the password, remove it with the PDF Password tool first, then upload the unlocked copies and merge them.

Does merging reduce quality or change page size?

Pages are copied into the new document without re-rendering them, so text and images are not recompressed. Each page keeps its own size. If the merged file is too large to send, shrink it afterwards with the Compress PDF tool.
