Split a PDF into separate files

Extract page ranges out of a PDF into separate files.

e.g. 1-3, 5, 8-10 — each range becomes its own file

Fills every file with this many pages, overrides page ranges above

To split PDF files, upload one and either type page ranges such as 1-3, 5, 8-10 or enter a number of pages per file. Each range or chunk becomes its own PDF, and all of them arrive together in one ZIP download. If you fill in both options, the pages-per-file number wins. The tool accepts one unencrypted PDF up to 25 MiB at a time.

Split by page ranges

Type ranges separated by commas, for example 1-3, 5, 8-10. Each entry becomes a separate PDF: the first three pages, page 5 on its own and pages 8 to 10. Ranges can overlap, and pages you leave out simply do not appear in any file. A page number higher than the page count produces an error rather than a silent skip.

Split every N pages

Enter a number in the every-N-pages field to cut the document into equal parts. A 10-page PDF with 4 pages per file gives three files with 4, 4 and 2 pages, because the last file holds whatever is left. This option overrides the page ranges field, so clear it if you want ranges instead.

What is in the ZIP

The download is named after your file with -split.zip. Inside, each part is called after the original name plus its pages, such as report-pages-1-3.pdf or report-pages-5.pdf. You must enter either ranges or a number; submitting the form with both fields empty shows an error.

Pulling out pages without a ZIP

Splitting always returns a ZIP, even for one range. If you only want to keep certain pages in a single PDF, Reorder / Delete PDF Pages is simpler: list the pages to keep and get one file. To glue parts back together later, use Merge PDF.

Frequently asked questions

How do I split a PDF into individual pages?

Enter 1 in the every-N-pages field. Each page becomes its own PDF inside the ZIP, named after the original file and the page number. You can also list single pages as ranges, such as 1, 2, 3.

How do I extract pages 5 to 10 from a PDF?

Type 5-10 in the page ranges field and submit. You get a ZIP with one PDF holding pages 5 to 10. If you want it as a plain PDF without a ZIP, use Reorder / Delete PDF Pages with 5-10 as the pages to keep.

What happens if I fill in both ranges and pages per file?

The pages-per-file number takes priority and the page ranges are ignored. The form says so under the field itself. Clear the every-N-pages box if you want your ranges used instead.

Why did I get a ZIP file instead of a PDF?

Split PDF always packages its output as a ZIP, even when you request only one range, because it can produce several files. Unzip the download to get the individual PDFs.

Can I split a password-protected PDF?

Not directly. Encrypted PDFs are rejected with an error. If you know the password, remove it using the PDF Password tool, then upload the unlocked copy and split it as normal.
