Crop an image by pixels or aspect ratio
Crop an image down to an exact pixel region.
To crop image files, upload one and either type the left, top, right and bottom pixel positions of the area to keep, or choose a centred preset of 1:1, 4:3, 16:9 or 3:2. There is no drag-to-select box, so you need to know the pixel coordinates for a custom crop. The cropped file is downloaded as a PNG, named after the original with -cropped added, and the original is not changed.
How to crop with coordinates
Enter Left, Top, Right and Bottom in pixels, measured from the top-left corner of the image. Left and top are where the kept area starts; right and bottom are where it ends. Right must be greater than left, bottom greater than top, and neither can pass the image's width or height. If the box does not fit, the tool tells you the image size.
How to crop to an aspect ratio
Choose 1:1 for a square, 4:3, 16:9 or 3:2 and leave the coordinates empty. The tool keeps the largest area of that shape and centres it, trimming equally from both sides or from top and bottom. It does not let you shift the crop to a different spot, so for an off-centre subject use coordinates instead.
Output format and quality
The cropped image is saved as a PNG, even if you upload a JPG, because the tool re-saves the cut area without carrying over the original format. PNG is lossless, so no extra detail is lost, but a cropped photo can be larger than the JPG source. Run it through the Image Compressor or convert it back with the Image Converter if size matters.
Finding the right numbers
Open your image in any viewer that shows pixel dimensions, or check them with the Image Resizer before cropping. For a social-media shape, pick the closest ratio preset first, then resize the result to exact dimensions. To fix a tilted or sideways picture before you crop, use Rotate / Flip Image.
Frequently asked questions
Can I crop an image by dragging a box?
Not at the moment. This tool takes pixel coordinates for left, top, right and bottom, or a centred aspect-ratio preset. Find your pixel positions in an image viewer, then type them in.
How do I crop an image to a square?
Choose the Square (1:1) preset and leave the coordinate fields empty. The tool keeps the largest centred square from your image. For a square from a different part of the picture, enter coordinates where right minus left equals bottom minus top.
Why is my cropped JPG now a PNG?
The tool saves the cropped area as a PNG. That avoids a second round of JPG compression but can make the file larger than the original. Use the Image Converter to turn it back into JPG, or compress it.
What does the error about the crop box mean?
It means your coordinates fall outside the picture or are in the wrong order. Right must exceed left, bottom must exceed top, and all values must stay within the image's width and height in pixels.
What is the largest image I can crop?
You can upload a JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF or BMP up to 20 MiB, one at a time. The original file stays untouched, and you download the cropped copy as a PNG.
