Image converter for JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF and BMP
Convert between JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF and more.
Use this image converter to change a JPG, JPEG, PNG, WEBP, GIF or BMP file into JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF or BMP. Upload one image up to 20 MiB, choose the output format and, for JPG or WEBP, set a quality from 1 to 100. Pick the format by what you need: JPG for photos, PNG for transparency and sharp edges, WEBP for small web images. The converter saves a single frame, so animated GIFs will not stay animated.
How to convert an image
Choose an image file, select the output format and, if you picked JPG or WEBP, optionally set the quality. Submit the form and download the converted file. The original is untouched, so you can convert it again with different settings.
Which format should you pick
JPG is the best fit for photographs and keeps files small, but it cannot store transparency. PNG keeps transparent areas and crisp edges, which suits logos and screenshots, and files are usually larger. WEBP gives small files for websites. GIF uses a limited palette, and BMP is large and mainly useful for legacy software.
Transparency, quality and animation
Converting a transparent PNG to JPG fills the transparent areas, because JPG output is converted to RGB. The quality setting applies only to JPG and WEBP, and lowering it trades detail for size. Changing format alone does not guarantee a smaller file: a photo saved as PNG is often larger than the JPG it came from.

If the file is too large after conversion, use the Image Compressor or Image Resizer. For iPhone photos in HEIC format, use the HEIC Converter. To bundle several images into one document, use Image to PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Which image formats can I upload?
You can upload files with the JPG, JPEG, PNG, WEBP, GIF or BMP extension. The output can be JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF or BMP. For HEIC photos from an iPhone, use the separate HEIC Converter.
Does converting an image reduce quality?
Converting to PNG or BMP does not add compression loss. Converting to JPG or WEBP can, depending on the quality setting you choose. Use a higher value to keep more detail, or a lower one for a smaller file.
Will transparency survive when I convert PNG to JPG?
No. JPG cannot store transparency, so the output is converted to RGB and transparent areas are filled with a solid colour. To keep transparency, choose PNG or WEBP as the output format instead.
Does the quality setting work for PNG?
No. The optional quality value from 1 to 100 applies to JPG and WEBP output only. PNG, GIF and BMP are written without a quality setting, so file size depends on the image content itself.
Can I convert an animated GIF?
The converter saves one frame of the loaded image, so do not rely on it to keep an animation. For turning a short clip into an animated GIF, use the Video to GIF tool instead.
