Convert HEIC photos to JPG or PNG
Convert the primary still image in a HEIC or HEIF file to JPEG or PNG.
To convert HEIC to JPG, upload your .heic or .heif file (up to 20 MB), choose JPEG or PNG and download the result. HEIC is the format iPhones and many Android phones use for photos, and it does not open everywhere. The converter exports only the first still image in the file and applies its rotation, so a photo taken in portrait comes out the right way up.
How to convert HEIC to JPG
Choose a HEIC or HEIF file, select JPEG or PNG and submit. For JPEG you can set the quality from 1 to 100; if you leave it empty, quality 90 is used. You download a normal JPG or PNG with the same file name. The original stays unchanged.
JPEG or PNG
Choose JPEG for sharing, email and uploads, because the files are much smaller. Choose PNG when you want lossless output or when the HEIC has transparency. In JPEG, transparent areas are filled with white. PNG files from photos are large, so only use it when quality matters more than size.
What is and is not converted
Only the primary image is exported. Extra frames, such as the motion part of a Live Photo, burst images or depth data, are not included. The converter reduces high-bit-depth HDR images to ordinary 8-bit output and normalizes the color profile to sRGB. Camera and GPS metadata are not copied to the new file.
Limits and fixes
Files are limited to 20 MB and 24 megapixels, and the extension must be .heic or .heif. If a file is rejected as unreadable, it may be damaged or a different format with the wrong extension. For other conversions, use the Image Converter, and shrink big results with the Image Compressor.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert a HEIC file to JPG?
Upload the .heic file, choose JPEG as the output format and submit. You can set a quality from 1 to 100, with 90 as the default, then download the finished JPG. The conversion processes one file at a time.
Will the converted photo keep its location data?
No. The converter copies only the pixels, not EXIF, GPS or other embedded metadata. That is handy for sharing, but if you need the shooting date or location in the file, keep the original HEIC.
Why is only one picture converted from my Live Photo?
Only the first still image in a HEIC file is exported. The short video and any extra frames of a Live Photo or burst are not converted, so you get one standard picture.
What is the maximum HEIC file size?
A HEIC or HEIF file can be up to 20 MB and up to 24 megapixels. Files outside those limits are rejected with an error, and the extension must be .heic or .heif.
Should I pick JPEG or PNG for my iPhone photo?
Pick JPEG for almost everything, as it keeps files small and opens everywhere. Pick PNG only if you need lossless output or transparency, and accept that the file will be much larger.
