Convert Word to PDF (text-only DOCX export)
Convert Word documents into polished PDFs.
To convert Word to PDF, upload a .docx file and download a PDF. This converter reads the paragraphs in your document and typesets them again on US Letter pages with 1-inch margins, treating any heading style as a heading. It is a text-based rebuild, not a copy made by Microsoft Word, so images, tables, headers, footers, columns and most formatting do not carry over. It suits plain documents such as letters, notes and drafts.
How to convert a Word document to PDF
Choose a .docx file up to 20 MiB, submit the form and download the PDF, which keeps your file name. Older .doc files and other formats are not accepted, so save the document as .docx in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice first. Check the PDF before you send it.
What is kept and what is dropped
Paragraph order and the text itself are kept. Any paragraph using a Word heading style is set as a heading, though all heading levels look the same. Blank paragraphs become spacing. Tables, images, text boxes, headers, footers, page numbers, columns, fonts, colours and bold or italic runs are not reproduced. If a document has no text at all, the PDF contains a short note saying it appears to be empty.
When this tool fits
Use it for text-heavy files where the words matter more than the design: a cover letter, meeting notes, a contract draft you want to circulate as read-only, or a plain report. Do not use it for a CV with a designed layout, a brochure, or any file where a table or logo is essential. For those, export to PDF from the program you wrote it in.
Related tools and file handling
If you later need the text back in an editable file, use PDF to Word. To bring several PDFs together, try Merge PDF, and to shrink the result for email use Compress PDF. Download the PDF as soon as it is ready and avoid uploading documents you are not allowed to share with a third-party service.
Frequently asked questions
Does the converter keep my Word formatting?
No. It rebuilds the text as plain paragraphs and headings on Letter-size pages. Fonts, colours, bold and italic, tables, images, headers and footers are not carried over, so use Word's own Save as PDF if the design matters.
Will images and tables appear in the PDF?
No. Only paragraph text is read from the document. Images and tables are left out, including the text inside table cells. If your file relies on them, export from Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice instead.
Can I convert a .doc file to PDF?
Not directly. The tool accepts files with the .docx extension only. Open the older .doc file in Word or LibreOffice, save a copy as .docx, and upload that version. Other formats such as .odt or .rtf need the same treatment.
What is the maximum file size for Word to PDF?
A .docx can be up to 20 MiB. Since only text is used, most documents are far smaller. If a file is too big, remove large images in Word and save it again.
What page size does the PDF use?
US Letter, 8.5 by 11 inches, with 1-inch margins on every side. There is no option to choose A4 or change margins, so the page breaks will differ from the layout you see in Word.
